Product Description
Pump fan compressor single joint gas turbines Key-joint double elastic disc flexible shaft Lock disc single diaphragm coupling for truck
Metal flex couplings are disc type couplings in which several flexible metallic elements are alternately attached with bolts to opposite flanges. As polymeric elastomer is replaced by metal disc, Metal Flex coupling provides excellent temperature capability without sacrificing angular and axial misalignment. The coupling provides low axial and bending stiffness while possessing high torsional rigidity. The stretched shim pack design of CHINAMFG Metal Flex couplings provides zero backlash. CHINAMFG Metal Flex couplings are available up to 13367 Nm torque with single shim pack (UMK) and double shim pack (UMS) series.

Materials Used in Manufacturing Disc Couplings
Disc couplings are typically constructed using a combination of high-quality materials that contribute to their durability, strength, and performance. Some commonly used materials include:
- Stainless Steel: Stainless steel is a popular choice due to its corrosion resistance and high strength-to-weight ratio. It ensures longevity and can withstand harsh environments.
- Aluminum: Aluminum is known for its lightweight properties and is often used in applications where weight reduction is essential while maintaining reasonable strength.
- Steel: Carbon or alloy steel is chosen for its robustness and ability to handle high torque loads and harsh operating conditions.
- Bronze or Brass: These materials can be used in specific applications where electrical conductivity is a concern, or when friction and wear properties are important.
The selection of materials depends on factors such as the coupling’s intended application, torque requirements, environmental conditions, and the desired balance between strength, weight, and resistance to wear and corrosion.
Customization of Disc Couplings for Specific Machinery Requirements
Disc couplings can indeed be customized to match specific machinery requirements and limitations:
- Size and Configuration: Disc couplings can be tailored in terms of size and disc configuration to accommodate space restrictions and torsional load demands.
- Material Selection: The choice of materials for the disc packs can be customized to ensure compatibility with the operational environment, such as temperature, corrosion resistance, and other factors.
- Performance Parameters: Disc couplings can be designed to meet specific performance parameters, including torque capacity, misalignment accommodation, and torsional stiffness.
- Attachment and Hub Designs: The attachment mechanisms and hub designs can be customized to seamlessly integrate with the existing machinery components.
- Specialized Applications: Manufacturers can create disc couplings with unique features for specialized applications, such as those requiring higher precision, critical alignment, or specific levels of vibration dampening.
Through customization, disc couplings can effectively address the unique requirements and limitations of various machinery systems, enhancing their performance and reliability.
Disc Couplings: Function and Application in Mechanical Systems
A disc coupling is a type of flexible coupling used in mechanical systems to connect two shafts while allowing for angular misalignment, axial movement, and some degree of torsional flexibility. It consists of two hubs with flexible metallic discs, known as diaphragms, positioned between them.
Disc couplings are commonly utilized in various industrial applications where precise power transmission, reliability, and flexibility are essential. Some key features and applications of disc couplings include:
- High Torque Transmission: Disc couplings are designed to transmit high torque loads between shafts while maintaining shaft alignment. The flexible diaphragms can accommodate misalignments and prevent torque overloads on connected equipment.
- Angular Misalignment Compensation: The design of disc couplings allows them to handle angular misalignment between shafts, which can occur due to manufacturing tolerances or dynamic conditions.
- Axial Movement Absorption: Disc couplings can absorb limited axial movement along the shaft axis without transferring excessive forces to the connected components.
- Torsional Flexibility: The metallic diaphragms of disc couplings offer torsional flexibility, enabling them to dampen vibrations and shock loads. This helps protect connected equipment from damage and increases overall system reliability.
- Precision Machinery: Disc couplings are often employed in precision machinery and equipment, such as CNC machines, robotics, pumps, compressors, and servo systems. These applications require accurate motion control and reliable power transmission.
- High-Speed Applications: Due to their balanced design and ability to maintain precise alignment, disc couplings are suitable for high-speed applications where even a small misalignment can lead to vibration and wear.
The ability of disc couplings to provide both flexibility and precise torque transmission makes them a preferred choice in various industries, including manufacturing, aerospace, automotive, and more. Proper selection, installation, and maintenance of disc couplings contribute to improved machinery performance, reduced downtime, and extended component life.
